2011-02-08: This year’s keynote address will be given by Dr. Dean Allemang.
Dr. Allemang is the Chief Scientist at TopQuadrant, Inc, a US company specializing in Semantic Web software and services. He is an internationally recognized expert in the Semantic Web with a strong formal background in Mathematics (MSc, University of Cambridge) and Computer Science (PhD, Ohio State University). For the past seven years, he has lead TopQuadrant's successful TopMIND training series, from which he drew much of the inspiration for his recent book (co-authored with Prof. Jim Hendler), Semantic Web for the Working Ontologist (now available in four languages). Dr. Allemang brings years of experience applying knowledge-based technologies to real business problems.
2011-01-05: Selected presentations will be invited to submit an extended version to a special open access post workshop edition of the Semantic Web Journal
The OWL: Experiences and Direction (OWLED) workshop series aims at bringing users, implementors and researchers from academia and industry together to describe applications of OWL, to share experience, and to discuss extensions to the language for satisfying application requirements. The workshop will allow the OWL community to set an an agenda for research and deployment in order to incorporate OWL-based technologies into new applications.
This year's OWLED workshop will be co-located with the 2011 Semantic Technology Conference (SemTech) that will be held in San Francisco, California June 5-9 2011.
The OWLED workshop will encourage participants to work together and give space for discussions and tutorials about OWL 2 and related technologies. There will also be formal presentation of submissions to the workshop.

Online registration for OWLED is now open.
Some support for student attendance will be available for OWLED 2011. Priority will be given to students with accepted papers who would have problems attending the workshop without support. There is a fixed amount of money that will be divided amongst applicants based on the location and need of the student. Support based on paper acceptance will be per paper, not per attendee.
To apply for support send email to the general chair by May 15th providing information on your situation. Also send a letter from your supervisor stating that support is needed.
- Tutorials
We invite proposals (maximum 4 pages) for 90 minute tutorials that
cover basic, intermediate and advanced OWL-related topics of interest
to the OWLED and SemTech communities. Proposals should provide the
title, intended audience, skills developed, motivation, objectives,
detailed outline, instructor biography and prior tutorial/teaching
experience.
- Application Track
Application papers (maximum 4 pages; LNCS style) may present novel
practical approaches in using OWL, or may employ scientific methods
(qualitative and/or quantitative) to understand in greater detail the
application of OWL in real-world systems.
- Research Track
Research papers (maximum 10 pages; LNCS style) should clearly describe
original, significant research pertaining to OWL.
- Statement of Interest
A statement of interest (maximum 4 pages; LNCS style) can be about
ideas, solutions, methods, products, research projects or
implementation experience pertaining to OWL.
Accepted papers will be made available to attendees before the workshop. There will also be open registration for the workshop. Attendees who are not submitting a technical paper are encouraged to submit a statement of interest.
All statements of interest and papers must be submitted online using the conference submission website Easychair. All submissions must be in PDF. All submissions but tutorials must be formatted in the style of the Springer Publications format for Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS).
